Eminem – No Love (feat. Lil Wayne) + Talkin’ 2 Myself (feat. Kobe) + Love The Way You Lie (feat. Rihanna) + Going Through Changes

hiphop new

If you were to ask me to trade for my music, I would tell you I couldn’t give you everything in my library. Why? Because it wouldn’t be my music. Being a form of expression, the music I listen to and love the most is the type I can most closely relate. It’s like that feeling where no one in the world understands what you’re going through. For me, music fills that void. I’ll hear a lyric, feel a beat, and it’s like “DAMN! That’s exactly how I’m feelin’ right now“. It becomes part of me, in my headphones because that’s how I want my mind to function. So, for me to give you my music would be to give you a part of myself that has developed and evolved over time into an almost tangible form of emotion. Giving you someone else’s music that I’ve collected wouldn’t be giving you me. Please, don’t misinterpret the use of the word ‘my‘ like I created the song. I don’t have the talent to create, but I understand and love. That’s why I’m here: To share with you a gift that has no fixed material value.

Here’s three of my favorite tracks off one of the best albums I’ve heard in a long time. Even though Recovery caught some leakage, I’m glad I didn’t hear half the CD via singles before it dropped (*cough* Thank Me Later). Seriously though, buy the album, it’s f*ckin’ incredible. Don’t get caught in the fire below.

LUKE UPDATE: Seriously, I can’t stop spinning this. I lied above. My favorite cuts off the album are W.T.P., GOING THROUGH CHANGES, Seduction, Cinderella Man, 25 To Life, Almost Famous, and I’m going to stop before I name every track on the project. No features except for chorus hooks, besides Weezy? That’s how a real album’s created. ALL Eminem. AND Em clearly loves Weezy!? Added another one. Sorry Shady, I had to let loose on this one. Too deep. Listen.

Here’s Em‘s odd second single off Recovery… In case you’re not feelin’ the Pink feature/Rebirth-esque rock beat, I added a bonus Alchemist produced record that Eminem, Royce, and Mr. Porter freestyled over on Tim Westwood’s recent show.

Eminem Re-names ‘Relapse 2′

hiphop new

Now entitled Recovery, Eminem‘s next album is dropping 6/22, with Boi-1da, Jim Jonsin, Just Blaze, & DJ Khalil on the production. Shouts @ 2dbz.

“I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year,” says Eminem. “But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title.”

B.o.B Says Eminem Collaboration ‘Was A Gift’

hiphop new

Eminem is a busy guy — he isn’t exactly the most accessible artist to work with, which is part of the reason his guest spots on songs like Lil Wayne‘s “Drop the World” and Drake‘s “Forever” are such big deals.

He doesn’t just do it for anybody, because not just anybody can keep up with him. So when the track list for B.o.B‘s debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray was released, it was a surprise to see Em’s name included.

B.o.B scored a guest spot from an enthusiastic Eminem on “Airplanes (Part II),” also featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore. Marshall Mathers said manager Paul Rosenberg introduced him to B.o.B’s work, starting with his first mixtape Cloud 9, and he liked what he heard.

“Paul Rosenberg played him the Cloud 9 mixtape and it kind of gave him an idea of what my music [sounds like],” B.o.B explained. “Eventually he started playing Em more of my stuff and was keeping him updated on my progress and eventually he wanted to get in the studio with me, so that was a gift.”

According to B.o.B, working in the studio with Em was like being in a laboratory with a mad scientist, watching and observing how everything works. But he was happy to find that while each artist has different methods, they’re all trying to find that zone.

“It’s really reassuring to know that every artist has a way of working but it’s all … the essence of it all is to get in that vibe and to get in that zone, and everybody has a different way to get in that zone,” B.o.B offered. “It’s good to see a different way, because you know, ‘OK, I can do this or I can do that.’ It kind of showed me where I was thinking inside of a box and where I can open up even more.”

Elton John Helped Eminem Stay ‘Drug Free’

Elton John, spreading the love, nothing less. O_o

Since becoming drug free, Eminem has encountered a well-received return to music with a successful album and reunion with fans.

Another part of the rapper’s recovery was revealed Saturday (Jan. 2), courtesy of famed singer Sir Elton John.

Appearing on the BBC Radio’s The Danny Baker Show, the entertainer revealed his current efforts to help Eminem, who had a history of drug abuse. According to John, the Detroit lyricist is doing a great job of kicking his habit.

“I’ve been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he’s doing brilliantly,” Elton John told Danny Baker. “I’m there if people want my help. If people ask for help you tell them where to go but there’s no point advising people if they don’t want to do it.”

John’s relationship with Eminem goes back to the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards on February 21, 2001.

The pair united on stage for the first time to perform the Eminem’s hit “Stan” in a move to show the rapper/actor had no hate for the gay and lesbian community.

At the time, Eminem was criticized by the LGBT for what they deemed to be anti-gay and violent lyrics in songs from his Grammy Award winning sophomore album, The Marshall Mathers LP.

No stranger to his own struggle with substance abuse, John recounted how he turned down help from concerned friends. Before giving up his habit, the musician was embroiled in a constant struggle with alcohol and cocaine. In 1975, John suffered a drug overdose in Los Angeles.

The revelation of John’s helping of Eminem comes months after the rapper confessed to Vibe last year that he suffered from severe drug addiction.

According to Eminem, his problem led him to take as many as 20 Vicodin, Ambien and Valium in a day. Currently sober, Eminem is enjoying a wave of success from his latest album Relapse.

The 20-track release, the rapper’s first offering since 2004’s Encore, debuted at number one with more than 608,000 copies sold. Eminem’s forthcoming release, Relapse 2, is slated to hit stores this year.

Lil Wayne – Rebirth [Album]

lil wayne rebirth artwork

The much anticipated album by Lil Wayne, Rebirth!! Set for a February 1, 2010 release according to Wikipedia. I checked a bunch of sites to confirm the track list and I came to a consensus of the following, with 9 additional bonus tracks. Not sure whether these will be on the album, on a separate bonus disc or what. Either way, I feel like this album will get scrutinized like Kanye’s 808′s and Heartbreak did. Listen to this with an open mind and you’ll probably appreciate it more. LUKE UPDATE: Even though Amazon leaked some 500 copies of the album, I’m sure the tracklist will change by the time the official album drops.

Best Selling Artists of the Decade

eminem

Em sold more than 32.2 million albums in the 2000s, edging out the Beatles to claim the title of top-selling artist. The Beatles ended up with the decade’s best-selling album (they sold nearly 11.5 million copies of 2000’s greatest-hits comp 1,) besting the likes of ‘NSYNC’s No Strings Attached (11.1 million copies sold) and Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me, (10.5 million). Eminem was the only artist to place two albums on the list; his The Marshall Mathers LP and Eminem Show records landed at #4 and 5, selling 10.2 million and 9.8 million copies, respectively. Interestingly, of the top 10 albums of the decade, the most recently released is Usher’s Confessions, which came out in 2004.

Nielsen Soundscan created the decade lists using data collected from January 1, 2000-November 1, 2009, and though figures might rise through December 31, they won’t alter the rankings.
