I was originally going to just post the mixtape, but this Jaylectro “situation” (whatup Jersey Shore) has turned into so much more, so I feel compelled to inform ya’ll about, *ahem* the situation.

Below you’ll see an excerpt about Furious & Dub’s mixtape tribute to Jay Elect. You’ll also find Exhibit A & C, both produced by Just Blaze. Now, it’s tough for me to agree that Jay is some sort of hip-hop savior, especially when homeboy’s turning 34 and hasn’t even dropped an album yet. What I mean is, the only real piece of art Jay’s dropped is Act I (which is on some crazy creative sh*t, as it consists of 15 continuous tracks w/ no drums, using the soundtrack from ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind‘. There are five parts, marked by changes in music and mood, and occasional snippets of sampled dialogue (children arguing in Kurdish, Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka). The first segment is spoken word by Just Blaze and Erykah Badu- his wife- describing the artist over piano music); and you can download this below. So, is he the best? No. Could he be? Maybe. Either way, I’m especially amped for Act II. I need some more of this lyrical brilliancy in my headphones, like yesterday. Just read Exhibit C’s lyrics, then please try and tell me he’s not on some other sh*t..

After hearing what they did on the best rap album of 2009, all that comes to mind is ‘Maybes the Best Group Ever‘, as lame as that sounds.

Ghostface Killah has reached out to fans for help in deciding a rap group alias for his upcoming joint album alongside Raekwon and Method Man.

Writing via MySpace, Ghostface reached out to hip-hop heads for their thoughts and suggestions.

“We Need a Group Name!!!!!,” the message read last night (January 8). “Help us out! As you know Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon are teaming up for an album dropping very soon, but Meth, Rae & Ghost need a name 4 the group. Txt MethRaeGhost to 66937 to name the band! If they chose UR name U can be in the liner notes”

According to Raekwon, the long-awaited project is almost ready for retail release.

“Everything is a go from what I’m hearing,” he said in an interview. “It’s a record that’s gonna come out on Def Jam so…I really don’t have too much knowledge on it. I spoke to [Method Man] and he’s telling me by the middle of February the album should be already solidified. So, that’s what I’m hoping [is] gonna happen. We’ll see what Def Jam [will] do. I’m just coming in as a piece on the board just to really go in and do what I gotta do. But we gon’ see how they handle the business with that album…We still got more things that we wanna d o. We ain’t never wrapped. We gon’ definitely make sure that we really give y’all a tight album, and [make sure that] everybody’s opinions and criticisms account for this record.”

More artists potentially throwing away their careers for unnecessary bullsh*t. Cya later Banks.

Lloyd Banks is being held by police in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, on assault and robbery charges after an incident involving a local promoter following a concert Friday night.

Authorities say that Banks and three others assaulted the promoter after the G-Unit member performed at Club NV in nearby Blandford late Friday night.

Sergeant Brad Finucan of the Waterloo Regional Police’s Criminal Investigations branch told MTV News on Sunday (January 10) that Banks (real name: Christopher Lloyd) and three associates got into a dispute with the promoter at a local hotel over payment for performance and an appearance fee.

The promoter alleged that early Saturday morning the lyricist and three men associates — Nicklas Sloane, Shawn McGee, and Tyrell Cooper — held him in his hotel room against his will, assaulted and robbed him. All four men were charged with forceful confinement, aggravated assault and robbery. The four made a video court appearance on Sunday afternoon (January 10) and are due to appear in court again early this week. They remained in police custody at press time.

While they have performed sporadically in the United States in recent years, Banks, along with 50 Cent and G-Unit, have performed extensively outside of the county.

Banks was arrested on gun-possession charges in New York in August of 2005 after G-Unit’s appearance during the Anger Management 3 tour at New York’s Madison Square Garden, which ended with Young Buck shouting “F— the police!,” Buck, Lloyd Banks and their entourages were traveling in a van when their vehicle was pulled over in Manhattan for allegedly running a red light. Upon inspection, two guns were found.

Lil Wayne’s Rebirth has seen constant delays over the past year, but for once, the album is not being pushed back.

Contrary to reports that it had been moved to June, the rapper’s oft-delayed foray into rock is still scheduled for release on February 2, Universal Motown confirms to Rap-Up.com. Exactly one week later on February 9,.

Wayne is likely to be sentenced and report to prison for almost a year on gun charges.

Rebirth surfaced online when it was prematurely shipped to around 500 Amazon.com customers last month. The final tracklisting may change due to the leak.

The Chris Robinson-directed video for “On Fire” premiered yesterday and “Drop the World,” Weezy’s collaboration with Eminem, debuted at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
