R.I.P. Michael Jackson

R.I.P. to the King of Pop. Our prayers go out to his friends and family. This is a very sad day in history… but I’m pushing for positive thinking and celebrating the life and music of MJ.

Below are remixes and tribute songs that begin what I anticipate as a long stint of MJ tribute tracks. RIP Michael.

Keith Murray & Canibus (The Undergods) – 129 (Prod. Erick Sermon)

Lushlife feat. Ariel Pink & Elzhi – In Soft Focus Off his upcoming album, ‘Cassette City’, dropping July 7th. “Figuring out what the boy Lushlife is all about isn’t a piece of cake. With a look more Vice Magazine than The Source, a production style that sounds like DJ Premier chopping up Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach, and a flow to make you think there’s a VERY worn copy of Illmatic in his past somewhere, the Philly emcee/producer isn’t easy to pin down. But that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? A perfect example of these intersecting aesthetics, In Soft Focus takes a pastel-colored golden-era-influenced beat with a sample taken from lo-fi indie rock champ Ariel Pink and fuses it with Lush’s own flow, and then goes for the win with a verse from rising star and Slum Village member Elzhi. Sound too ambitious to work? Not on your life.”

Maino – Floating

Maino feat. Lloyd Banks & Swizz Beatz – Million Bucks (remix)

Maino feat. Pusha! Montana – Back To Life

Mya feat. Bun B – Show Me Something

Novel feat. Ced Hughes – Suspended Animation OnSMASH’s (self produced) title track off Novel’s upcoming project; which drops July 4th.

Rock City feat. Akon – When I Get On

Sandman – Homicide Off his upcoming street album, ‘Heart of the City’, drops this Monday!

Shawn Chrystopher – Untitled First single off Shawn Chrystopher’s debut album, ‘A City With No Seasons’, drops August 11th. “The reason why the song is untitled is because it’s a love story, and I felt if I gave the song any kind of “love” title it would already be looked at as ‘cheesy’ and ‘predictable’ before anyone got a chance to listen to it. So this way, people get to judge the song solely based on its production and lyrics (as they should anyway). Sort of like reading a book with no cover or synopsis on the back, just you and the art. -Shawn”

Trife – War Scarz Leak of Trife’s upcoming mixtape, ‘The Project’s Pope’, dropping next week.

Wu-Tang feat. Raekwon, Cormega & Sean Price – Radiant Jewels Off ‘Wu-Tang: Chamber Music’, drops June 30th!

Eminem on Shade 45 (Video)

Marshall talks on his own radio station about Relapse 2 and performing at the Voodoo Festival Show.

Lupe Fiasco – Shining Down (Artwork & Release Date)

50 Cent Speaks on Drake’s “Buzz” During XXL Interview (Video)

“I didn’t hear that, I don’t think you can accomplish that right now. Not without finance. I hear his record on the radio. He got a good buzz, I hear him. Shit, it wasn’t possible for my music to be on the radio when I was coming. You know mine’s was completely organic.“

“When you hear a song on the radio it means it’s being worked. Ain’t nothing there just because, enough for it to be playing every hour on the hour. That song is being worked like he’s on a label. You know I’m sure Sylvia Rhone or Universal — they’re spending money to get the record played. They got the public feeling like its just happening.”

“He might not be signed yet, but they may work it to get him to sign. Is it worth it to sign until you develop that?”

Rick Ross Announces Next Two Album Titles (Video)

Rick Ross is working on album number four, and the title is Teflon Don. The Bawse told us exclusively in Atlanta during the Birthday Bash concert that it’s only right he reflect on his bulletproof success on his next project.

“You gotta understand, I feel like I overcame so many things,” Ross said before he got onstage for the show. “Not only in music, but in my everyday life — being a young black man, being an entrepreneur, being a father. I learned a lot of things. I’m turning right around, putting it back into music. It’s still a lot of things I deal with. Still a lot of negativity. That’s what it is, and that’s why I feel the title of my next studio album is so appropriate.”

The other album title is revolved around the CCC project. He also told MTV that Maybach Music 2 is the next single and a video is being lined up once T-Pain, Kanye & Wayne can work out their schedules.

Press Release: Drake May follow in the independent path of Immortal Technique

Props to PublicWizardInc on the PR.

Drake may be pushing towards the successful independent route as Immortal Technique has accomplished without any major record label assistance.

Miami, Florida US – June 22, 2009 – Earlier this month, Drake spoke about the possibility of releasing his upcoming debut album on his own, something that Immortal Technique has successfully accomplished without any major label assistance, not even with a major marketing budget. Just last year Immortal Technique released his 3rd album,” The 3rd World,” which hit the Billboard charts in the first week and sold over 60k units. This was accomplished solely by his following since there was little to no marketing efforts and I found myself, his publicist, with barely any time to set up interviews for Immortal Technique due to his busy independent tour schedule. Yet Immortal Technique has managed to not only have a success release, but even finance and construct an Orphanage/Medical center in Kabul, Afghanistan, as well as continue to tour across the globe with a European tour starting this week.

Drake is aware that it will no be an easy task to accomplish on his own, but Immortal Technique offered his support in this statement, “Being independent means having more freedom, but it is coupled with a much larger workload and responsibility. People ask me about it all the time, and I respond, ‘It’s not for everyone.’ Some people are just creative and aren’t solid businessmen. They don’t want to be bothered with meetings, lawyers, accountants, developing marketing strategies, finalizing co-opt numbers, tour managing, etc. Most people just want to be the Rock Star and be pampered, It takes a lot of grit to tough it out behind the scenes. It also involves the necessity to look at yourself, your business acumen and your own music in 3rd person constantly, You need to train your mind to find that balance. Even with a staff, there is a lot riding on just you and you find out very quickly if the world really feels you and your message. I don’t know Drake personally but anyone headed down that road I respect very much and I hope he succeeds in doing that. Because if he did it would be a triumph much larger than anything he could see in the commercial world, both financially and creatively.”

With no pressure, Immortal technique continues to complete the actual anticipated album, “Middle Passage,” for a 2010 release date on Viper Records after this upcoming tour.
